Big Brothers Big Sisters offers a variety of programs to meet the needs
of children in our community. Our volunteers can enroll in a program that
suits their lifestyle so the ensuing friendship will be meaningful and fun!
Community Mentoring In the Community Mentoring program mentors have the
opportunity to spend 2-4 hours per week with a school aged child for 1
year. Couples as well as adults
aged 19 to 65plus have been successfully matched and made a wonderful
difference in a child’s life. All volunteers are carefully screened and
matched. Training and ongoing support is provided by BBBSCVI staff. Be prepared to be appreciated and to have lots
of fun! In-School Mentoring In-school mentors met with their matches at their school for
1 hour per week. Matches are made for all or part of the school year. The Staff
at the Elementary schools match BBBSCVI In-school Mentors with those children
they feel would most benefit from a attention of a Mentor. Teens as well as adults and seniors
enjoy being In-school mentors. All In-school mentors are carefully
screened and matched. Training and
support is provided by BBBSCVI staff. Teen mentors receive additional training
and support. The busy schedules of
senior mentors can be accommodated. School can be a wonderful place to be!! Group Mentoring BBBSCVI offers group programs for school aged children. For
example a Go Girls group was enjoyed by some preteen girls in 2009. Groups are
often organized with one session a week for 6-8 weeks. Adults and teens who
would like to volunteer to help with a group program are encouraged to call
BBBSCVI Program staff. All volunteers who assist with groups are carefully
screened and matched. Group leadership and direction to volunteers is provided
by BBBSCVI staff. Don’t think that
volunteering for a six weeks can’t make
a big difference – we know the positive difference you can make!
